MSC Statement on Appalachian Shale Responsible Producers Group’s Standards and Practices

Canonsburg, PA – Following the release today of a set of recommended standards and practices by the Appalachian Shale Responsible Producers Group (ASRPG), Kathryn Klaber, president of the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC), issued the following statement:

“The MSC applauds the work of the Appalachian Shale Recommended Practices Group for the continuing efforts aimed at further advancing responsible development practices across the region.

“Transparent operating standards are critical to the long-term growth and sustainability of our industry throughout Appalachia, and we will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders — regulators, non-governmental agencies, academic institutions, and others — to raise the collective bar on behalf of future generations.”

Last week, the MSC released the first in a series of recommended practices (RP) designed to provide general guidance ranging in topics from well construction to site restoration, air quality and water management. The MSC’s RPs will assist industry professionals operating in the Appalachian basin in improving their effectiveness in all stages of responsible natural gas exploration and production.
